About The Artwork

According to National Geographic, recently unearthed tablets discovered on the Plain of Huran, in Turkey, indicate conclusively that the Ark we are all so familiar with, is not in fact the first ark that Noah built. As we already know, Noah was 500 years old when God came to him and told Noah to begin constructing the Ark. By all accounts Noah started searching for the necessary materials almost immediately, but we now also know that Noah, given his advanced age, also suffered from severe hearing loss in both ears. Consequently when God decreed that Noah gather two of every animal to fill the ship, Noah misunderstood those instructions, and instead brought together two and every kind of TWO to fulfill God’s command. When God pointed out Noah’s mistake, the poor man was sore afraid, but God assured Noah that everyone makes mistakes and that he simply needed to begin again. Fortunately Noah was able to use the “Miss-Understood’s” hull and upper decks and was eventually retrofit the interior to accommodate living animals. The “Misunderstood” measures a full 9 foot, 3 inches when fully extended. It is also 22 inches high and 8 inches wide together. It features a handcrafted rudder, working hoist and elevator Each “2” is made from ceramic and there is also one “4” included, because you can’t put that many twos together without eventually ending up with at least one “4”. Removable parts include a movable ladder, a host of paint and tar cans and details like miniature capstans and full metal railing. The Ark itself if made from reclaimed barn wood and all the shudders are hand-carved and fired clay.

Internationally recognized fine artist, Ken Vrana, has been painting for over 55 years professionally. Growing up in the Hamptons, during an artistic explosion of incredible talent, he subsequently studied with seminal artists like William DeKooning, Larry Rivers, and Ashcan School artist, Valentine Arborgaste. In 1965 he was invited to participate in a special sculpture program at Syracuse University, and in 1966 he started school at Brooklyn’s Pratt Institute. During the next few years, while pursuing a degree in Interior Design, he also studied with artists like Andy Warhol. Over time he owned his own advertising agency in Atlanta and eventually made his way to Los Angeles and the film industry. Having never written anything professionally, within 2 weeks he had sold his first screenplay and soon found himself represented by the William Morris Agency. After 15 years he decided to change course and moved to Cary, North Carolina, a town south of Raleigh, and at age 49 decided to pursue something he’d wanted to do for years; go to law school. Shortly thereafter he created the 1 in 8 Foundation while working for Sir. Paul McCartney’s breast cancer charity. At about that same time he sold his first book, entitled 'Free Falling.' “I never paint for a particular audience,” Ken says, often creating paintings that seem to defy any established category, but instead, “I paint what inspires me and hope that collectors will find my work worthy of their attention." Currently, Ken is only working on limited artwork and pieces, due to a diagnosis of suspected Lewy Body Dementia.
