About The Artwork
The story of an injured mother koala needing urgent medical care was one which I could not ignore. Being a new mother myself, I was moved and felt a strong emotional bond to this story of survival. The young koala, just 6-7 months old clung to her mother whilst the staff at the veterinary clinic tried to detach her. After several attempts, they could not dislodge the joey and so operated on the mother while the joey clung on and observed. It came as a great relief to see this mother and child recover. All this came against a backdrop of seeing the bushfires unfurl in the tragic Black Summer of 2019-2020.

Young knew from an early age that her future lay in the sphere of artistic exploration. She decided that creating art was her calling in life after studying a Foundation course in Art and Design at Central Saint Martins in London. This initial experience guided her to fall in love with fine art. Fascinated by animals she encountered in the natural environment, she began to use these for her first painting subjects. Upon arriving in Paris, and for the past four years, Young has focused on sculpture with clay and contemporary paintings using mixed media including oil paints.
