About The Artwork

I love sculptures that live with the seasons and have an interactive element. Vases are wonderful in these ways because they change every time sometime puts a new set of flowers and other cuttings from gardens or the outdoors into them. In that sense, the collector is interacting with and helping create the art every time they add or change a floral/botanical arrangement. The sculpture becomes an active and always renewing part of the life of the collector and whoever is enjoying the latest arrangement. Pewter is a wonderfully visual and tactile medium. This pewter vase comes from a wax sculpture, and has a deeply organic feel to it. There is nothing machine-made in its shapes, dimensions, surface texture and finish. There is no symmetry in its shapes, and, instead, has an organic quality of its own to complement the botanicals that go in it. This pewter vase is a sculpture in its own right. It is part of a tradition of mine to sculpt unique and highly organic vases that become integral in the lives of their collectors. I sculpted the vase in wax, then made a mold of the wax vase, cast the pewter in the mold, and finished the pewter after removing it from the mold, all entirely hand-crafted by me in my studio.

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

I work in wood, resin, pewter, watercolor, sumi ink and other materials to create art that tells stories based on the interplay of light and shadows on organic shapes and spaces as we move through time. I believe stories and narratives are a critical part of what defines humanity, and that throughout human history until the wide dissemination of electric light, stories (oral and visual) were told in the context of sunlight, firelight and candlelight, each of which creates an environment rich in shadows and movement for both the storyteller and the listener. I aim to capture elements of that narrative richness in my art.
