About The Artwork
Inspired by a stunning poem by Mary Oliver, of which my favorite line is "and you too have come into the world to do this, to go easy, to be filled with light, and to shine." Full poem below: When I am among the trees, especially the willows and the honey locust, equally the beech, the oaks and the pines, they give off such hints of gladness. I would almost say that they save me, and daily. I am so distant from the hope of myself, in which I have goodness, and discernment, and never hurry through the world but walk slowly, and bow often. Around me the trees stir in their leaves and call out, “Stay awhile.” The light flows from their branches. And they call again, “It’s simple,” they say, “and you too have come into the world to do this, to go easy, to be filled with light, and to shine.”

My drive to be an artist started when I was very young – at the age of four or five drawing on my mother’s kitchen walls (and she left those drawings up until they day they sold the house). I’m motivated by a desire to express emotions and experiences that words don’t seem to be enough for, such as endurance and hope. My art isn’t perfect – some parts I get exactly right, but some parts are messy and some parts are rushed. But there’s beauty in that for me because I think it parallels life. Life isn’t perfect; some of it is messy, but when we step back and take a look at it in one grand whole, it’s beautiful.
