VIEW IN MY ROOM
This romantically-named local butterfly (Hypochrysops delicia delos) is named for the iridescent green-blue on the upper side of its wings – but I like the shocking orange and grey on the underside. Seen here in its native habitat of eucalypt and wattle woods, where, like the local “Eltham Copper Buttefly”, it has a symbiotic relationship with a species of ant. This is painted in artist's high quality oil paints on a sturdy wood panel, reinforced with a frame on the back.

I have always made art in various ways, and earlier in my art career I focused on modern sculpture, often made with soft materials. One of the drawbacks of sculpture is that the use of colour is complicated, but now I love to use interesting colour in my painting, whether to render a life-like reproduction of a person, insect, plant or landscape, or to make a bold statement in my "message" pieces. I love the quality of the ancient medium of paint, both oils and watercolours. I also love to observe and draw the world around me.. there's so much to see, and point out!
