Soul Mates Print

I am a self-taught multi-media concept artist. My methods favour line and wash, transparent watercolour techniques, egg tempera and gold or silver point on cotton rag paper or wood/clay. I am inspired by many themes; thought forms, vibrations, history, nature and healing. I use watercolour because I like to work with pigments similar to what our ancestors would have used on cave walls. Painting this way is not only playful but grounds me to natural history, my place in it. I am half Romany gypsy (something I often explore in my art and writing) and I believe in synchronicity and that all things have a vibration; I scry the surface of the wet paper and it’s a place to dream of the past, future and present. My artwork is in private collections in the US, UK, Europe and Australia. I have several paintings in a meditation centre in the UK where people are invited to meditation on them. These are healing dreams saved on paper. I studied the history of disease and medicine at university. This has informed my Klecksography habit with a healing purpose. I believe our unique gift as a species is to heal, ourselves and others and the planet. I draw parallels between our species and shamanism. We are learning about our sickness as a species as we also heal from our sickness. It is everywhere. Sickness of the mind is our human condition as much as healing is. Has there ever been a time when more people are reaching for health? Why does my mind race? Why am I me and not you? What will happen when I die? What is nothing? What is infinity? Am I dreaming? Why do we have minds that give us little peace? Is it because our ancestors liked fruit and fruit fed our brains and made our brains bigger so we found more ingenious ways to gather more and more fruit! Here we are! Burdened with egotistical consciousness to the point of paralysing anxiety and desire; our self-awareness creates so much fear and suffering as our traumas are like contagious viruses. Have you noticed our ability for abstract thought is disproportionate to our real needs, we love pets and animals and nature, they remind us that life is in fact very simple. But our minds have evolved out of control; like the antlers of stags have evolved to freakish proportions, so we can barely lift our heads under such weight to see the opportunities for a good life. Life can be simple. Art can be simple. Healing can be simple.
