About The Artwork

One in a series of works in which a reinterpretation of master works is done using vibrant and contrasting colors to deconstruct the pieces down to their emotional elements I painted this piece to capture the energy and motion of "The Dance" (1909-1910) By Henri Matisse. I also used the Fauvist color pallete. Known for its likeness to Blake's "Oberon, Titania and Puck", "The Dance" features a focus on negative space to the slight right of center in the image area. In my piece, I turned this space into the focal point, an energy center similar to the intent of a séance or a ritual circle. Painting is on 140lb cold pressed Arches watercolor paper and I used Golden acrylics. Arrives ready to hang in a white float mat and a black wooden box frame. All materials are archival to extend the longevity of the piece.

email is sdtompkins at live.com IG is stacytompkinsart I have work available in every price point Two-dimensional work: Inspired by microscopy images, themes of spiritual energy and hidden knowledge, my work explores the invisible realms in which we are enveloped, but rarely acknowledge. Sculpture: My mixed media sculptures focus on the psyche, ritual and meaning-making. The works deconstruct the transcultural aspects of ritual, sacred tool/ ritual object evolution, and the role biology plays in the archetypal development of deities. The pieces raise questions surrounding the origins of belief and spiritual identity.
