A legend tells about the existence of the Pillars of Hercules at the entrance to the Strait of Gibraltar. Nobody knew what there was beyond those mysterious columns: monsters, the end of the world; Dante thought there was purgatory... I thought that this legend was a beautiful metaphor to represent a love story: the unknown. There could be wonders or horrors beyond those columns. Nobody knows... That's why they are part of the same column. This surrealist / metaphysical oil on canvas talks about the mystery of love. It's one of the chapters of the collection "The lands where we loved", inspired by the styles of De Chirico and Dali, two of my favourite painters. In this collection the characters don't have a specific gender: they are androgynous to be close to the lgbt ideal of love, a modern vision that tells that love is born between people and not between genders. The compass is one of the main protagonists of the story portrayed in this collection, always there to show the way.
