About The Artwork

All pieces are signed and dated on the backside of the piece. The inspiration for the piece came after reading Tim O'Brian's novel "The Things They Carried" - the book contains a series of stories from the author's experience in the Vietnam War, but the first chapter is dedicated to describing the essentials each soldier would carry around. Time has passed and conflicts have subsided around the world yet every morning each of us assembles our essentials that we need to get through the day. For this piece I chose to utilize my mothers objects that she would lay out before her day would begin. Our possessions quite literally possess us and in doing so tell a greater story using fewer words than we ever could.

Born and raised on The Upper West Side in New York City, my art education began at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, where I spent countless weekends and evenings purosing the exhibits and studying each detail. I felt honored to learn from the great masters of every epoch, who shared their secrets with me from the walls of that great institution. After constantly surrounding myself with the work of these masters, I felt compelled to follow in their footsteps. After graduating from The Browning School with an “Excellence in Art” award, I moved from New York City to Providence, Rhode Island to attend the Rhode Island School of Design. While majoring in Industrial Design, I continued to produce my own art, such as paintings and mixed media pieces. The new knowledge and skills that I have absorbed thus far has made me more versatile in my creative endeavors.
