About The Artwork

Acrylic on Linen Canvas This work is from a series called a moment in time. This work expresses the profound family struggles in the current climate, where hopes are being shattered. Jobs have disappeared, family unity is on a survival mode, parents and children are facing moments of uncertainty and how to stay connected with shared responsibility in times of challenges while striving to survive with whatever means. A homage to all those families who are struggling to cope in a confined space in these difficult times, some families have had to make frequent visits from one food bank to the other, seeking support for their family while others are in despair.

Sophia Oshodin is a self-taught figurative painter from London. Sophia's alluring figurative paintings capture candid moments of everyday domesticity life. Her figures are often in an existing comfort zone challenging stereotypes and delving into metaphysics, exploring culture and perception that influence life. Sophia's subjects are imaginary figures. She adds scenes from memory and popular culture which are executed in oil and acrylic. Placing her subjects in ordinary environments to understand the complexities of human experience in society, examining the impact of Mental health and using art as a form of healing. Her practice entails collecting shared experiences between people in their everyday activities. Sophia's work communicates the fundamental nature of reality with A dialogue of colourful emotional connection that engages the viewers in their own interpretations. Drawing inspiration from African arts, Art history, Old master's works, contemporary arts, fashion, politics and colours. Her work has been exhibited nationally, internationally, and at various fairs such as Affordable Art Fair Hampstead, 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair - MARRAKECH and The Other Art Fair Exhibition. www.sophiaoshodinart.com Instagram @sophiaoshodinart
