About The Artwork

Paper on conservation board 23 x 25 in Even in times when one feels distracted, anxious, and in disarray one can create. Perhaps even must. Find solace in the process and enjoy the outcome; days when starting something new doesn’t seem like an option can turn out in the most surprising ways. * It is advisable to frame the artwork. Oak frames for compositions with lighter colours, and walnut frames for darker tones are recommended. A 10 to 13 mm (0.4 to 0.51 in) frame width would highlight the delicate nature of the work. To preserve the original colours and textures of the work it is recommended to use glass for protection, with anti-reflective options like Artglass or similar being advised by the artist. Alternatively displaying the artwork without protection can highlight natural qualities of paper and the process of ageing, which can be beautiful in itself and a call to let nature take its course, exploring the permanence of idea vs. expression medium. If you choose to display the work without glass protection take extra care not to damage the surface when cleaning, and where possible keeping away from moisture, heating, and direct sunlight. A tray frame to display the artwork without glass is recommended by the artist.

Nikolajs Klimovs is a London-based contemporary artist. Born in Latvia to Russian parents during the late USSR period, he moved to United Kingdom in 2004, and have lived and worked in London ever since. After graduating from London College of Fashion with a Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design Technology: Menswear he started a career in luxury fashion that spans over a decade now. A highly competitive and stressful environment provides a contrasting background to his perspective on art. Nikolajs Klimovs’ work is an expression of cognitive, spatial, and colour interplay in an abstract form. The choice of paper medium is deliberate, an exercise in relinquishing ingrained anxieties brought on by perfectionism and the drive for control; with shapes free-hand cut and fixed at once, using no markings or rearrangements. For Nikolajs art and philosophy have become a source and practice to challenge and rethink ideas of human experience in general, and personal life in particular.
