A beautiful mourning dove nested in my neighbors potter plant. The hatchlings were born but sadly were eaten by a hungry owl! The dove mourned for her lost hatchlings so I created this intricate drawing to honor her with her hatchlings and their spirit , to bless that state of motherhood, loss and renewal. The drawing is 18" x 30". It is in a floating frame, framed under museum glass and was exhibited at MOAH (Museum of Art and History) Lancaster in their MOAH Cedar Gallery.

My new bird series is polar opposite to my previous works. For three decades I created works about people, diversity, unity, communal exchange, and the news. As an LA native I spent my time sketching people in places of communal exchange. Barbershops, cafes, the LA art scene and even while riding the metro encompassed my world. The seismic shift taking place due to the political environment gender, identity, economics and Covid 19 changed my perspective. Now I seek serenity in nature preferring to draw and paint birds in different narratives. The birds bring me peace where the world can not.
