VIEW IN MY ROOM
Terry Straus’ portraits are inspired by the Secessionist school. The compositions are constructed using still photos taken of people on social media. Expressive line is exaggerated and distorted. The artist has explained:’”I want to capture the emotion and power of a conversation, even a public conversation.” Surfaces are built up by layering oil pastel and acrylics on watercolor paper. The layers are carved off to reveal the layers underneath. Straus is known for experimenting with materials. These layered portraits are more environmentally friendly than their traditional oils.
