About The Artwork

This piece is part of a series of mixed media abstracted flowers where I'm exploring the urge to more deeply experience the cycles of life and creativity and give that joyful emotion physical form in the world. These paintings are an organic expression of that primal joy in nature – unfolding in the studio as nature unfurls alongside. This one, and it's companion "Unfurling 1" are inspired by the peonies enthusiastically blowing open their tight buds to drink in sunshine and breeze. Finishing/Hanging Information All of my work, whether on paper or canvas, is completed with professional archival materials and finished and mounted in my studio so that no further framing or finishing is necessary. Works on paper are permanently mounted and sealed on slim-line cradled wood panels with natural wood sides. Works on canvas are mounted on stretcher frames with the art wrapping around the sides. All pieces larger than 6 inches x 6 inches have hanging hardware installed. All pieces are ready to hang when you receive them!

I'm Monette Satterfield, a mixed media artist and lifelong creator of many things in a wide range of mediums and formats. From my studio in the mountains of Western North Carolina, I draw inspiration from nature, spirituality, and personal experiences. I bring a visionary element into my creative practice to bridge the gap between outsider and fine art by using distinctive distressing and layering techniques. My work is inspired by wabi-sabi – the beauty in imperfection – and the organic forms of nature. The distinctive distressed and layered techniques I use evoke ancient relics or living organisms that invite you into my world of wonder and mystery.
