About The Artwork
On a visit to a rural town in the state of Veracruz, Mexico, I met this wonderful man who ran a school for traditional roping. He put on his handcrafted leather sombrero and allowed me to take photos while he demonstrated some of his best rope tricks. I painted this portrait to capture his earnestness, but also the bright colors and liveliness of his traditions.
