Dancer Painting

The bronze statue of a dancer in the Metropolitan Museum collection captivates me. Although she is now thought to represent a professional entertainer, at the time I painted her, her purpose was unknown. She is rendered here in white, dancing in light, wrapped in her gossamer veil. She is timeless, a woman dancing in eternity. There is some texture of wax on the panel. The materiality the painting as object cannot be denied, nor can the hard, dark bronze of the original statue. Still, the image of the dancer spins in the light. She dances forever.
