From the Zooplankton series. "Fish Larva" is from a series of zooplankton paintings based upon photographs made by scientists using microscope cameras. The backgrounds of the photographs are natural or artificial, varying by the scientists’ choices for display. In practice. In this piece, the ground was a centimeter scale and the measuring marks could be seen through the transparency of the larva. A large bubble near the larva's head was also in the photograph, almost like a comic book speech balloon. Thinking I need another element to this composition, I added a colorblind test pattern at the middle top with similarly sized circles made of small circles. When I was almost done with the piece and while cleaning a paint brush, I spilled a drop of dirty water onto the canvas. This circle was of similar size to the other circles in the work. I could have painted it out, but instead I left it. Fish Larva has been rxhibited at Art Slope, Luke's Lobster, Park Slope, Brooklyn, NY, 2016, Scarlet Seven Fine Art Gallery, Troy, NY, By the Skin of Your Teeth, 2017, and The Cluster Gallery, Gowanus, Brooklyn, NY, Small Works Exhibition, 2018.

I grew up in rural Ohio, where in the 5th grade my art teacher began encouraging me to draw. While earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in drawing and painting at The Ohio State University, I was awarded a Ford Foundation Grant. I then moved to NYC to attend New York University, spent a semester abroad, painting, drawing, and sculpting in Venice, Italy, and earned a Master's degree in studio art. The New York metropolitan area has been my home ever since. I now live and work in Yonkers with my husband, John, who provides invaluable support, advice, and carpentry skills.
