About The Artwork
A friend has a magnificent hedgerow of hollyhocks which inspired this painting. Each flower tower (and they really are towers) stands 6-8 feet tall, the blossoms opening in sequence from bottom to top like booster rockets, each pushing the one above it to burst into life and touch the sky. I used colors thick and buttery as summer itself, to depict the vitality of these giant rocketing flowers. Painted with lots of textured brushwork on a sturdy 1.5" gallery wrap canvas with hand-painted edge. Arrives ready to hang.

I am a contemporary impressionist and professional artist for 27 years. I work 'alla prima' with classic oils and brushes, using generous impasto texture and bold color.
