During the festivities before Christmas, the breaking of the piñata -an activity for children, is widely popular. Piñatas were made of clay, nowadays they are made of paper mache or cardboard, and decorated with multicolored paper. Finally, they are stuffed with candy, fruits, and little toys. One by one, the children will take turns being blindfolded and try breaking the piñata with a long stick. Once broken, all the goods fall on the ground, and the children will grab as much as possible. Curiously, the piñata is originally Chinese, introduced to Mexico during the colonial era.

United States
My work is inspired by Mexico and its culture. I love to tell and represent the myths, legends, and ways of life of pre-Hispanic people such as the Aztecs, and Maya. Also, today’s ethnic groups, alive and vibrant. I moved to the United States after marrying my Connecticut-born husband. I started showing my paintings at local galleries and getting mentions in newspapers. In Connecticut, I discovered a new life. Seascapes, sailboats, lighthouses, whales, and blue-eyed people started appearing in my work. Later I found Native Americans. They are stunning.
