About The Artwork
I live just outside the beautiful City of York, voted the best tourist destination outside of London, (trust me, it's better than London). The city has many connections back in time to the Vikings, The Romans and Saxons. Much of this rich history is still on view in the ancient buildings and city walls around York. Lendal bridge has always been one of the many crossing points of the River Ouse. I'm trying to put together a few oil paintings of the many sights of York. Painted in oils onto a stretched canvas.

I am inspired by nature and architecture. I live in North Yorkshire, so it's easy to find both those on my doorstep. Painting has always given me a sense of solace, my peaceful place. I paint things that take my eye, it might be a glint of sunlight on water or the reflection of a tree on a still pond. My paintings bring back memories for me, of special places, holidays and loved ones no longer with us. Art has that power, I think like music, we can be spirited back to a moment in the past by a song or a painting. I was born on a farm in 1959, I had a wonderful childhood outside from first light to tea time. I'm sure that's where my love of nature and animals came from.
