About The Artwork

In 'Magic City', Constantin Roucault encapsulates the dynamic essence of Las Vegas. The painting, awash with a vibrant array of colors, invites viewers into the city's exhilarating highs and poignant lows. Predating 'Urban Colors', this piece continues to explore the intricate dance between humanity and urbanity. Las Vegas is depicted not merely as a setting but as a pulsating, living entity. Across the canvas, dots and bubbles weave a narrative of contrasting dualities: luck and misfortune, wealth and poverty, glamour and grotesque. This dynamic visual symphony prompts reflection on the nature of success and failure, and the intricate relationships between the city's visitors and residents. Roucault's artwork offers a profound meditation on the allure and chaos of urban existence, capturing the enchantment and frenzy of a city that never sleeps.

I am a Swiss artist from the region of Fribourg, Western Switzerland. The cubist representation of urban and industrial subjects in the artworks of the American painters Charles Sheeler, Charles Demuth and partially Edward Hopper, influenced me a lot at the time, making me approach this artistic style. Since then the city and nature, in all its forms, remains a great source of inspiration for me. Through my artworks, I exploit the figurative and graphic style close to abstraction but also realism. Oil paint is the essential material I use for my creations, in some cases I use other media and techniques such as acrylic, ink, charcoal, collage and screen printing.
