About The Artwork

56x42” on 1.5” unframed gallery wrapped stitched canvas. I found myself reflecting on some unfinished paintings in my studio and wondering how to move them forward. Rather than stressing over the unresolved areas, I decided to take a risk and cut out the parts I really liked. Using my vintage Singer sewing machine, I sewed these pieces together. The result is my new collection of "Stitches”, that combine raw and gessoed canvas, stitched together to form eclectic compositions. Through this process, I am exploring the theme of overcoming fears and letting go, as I take the risk of cutting up completed works and rearranging them in unusual combinations. Unexpected situations often arise when we let go and embrace change. The mixed media used in these paintings includes Caran D'ache Neopastels, oil bars, graphite, and acrylic paint in a palette of blue-green, yellow ochre, a myriad of warm and cool grays, balanced by pops of black. The vibe is perky, like when poppies are blooming in the springtime in southern California. Poppy can be hung horizontally or vertically and is the perfect pick me up for any home or office.

As an artist and designer, I've always relished the challenge of turning nothing into something. My art is where spontaneity and careful planning coexist, a reflection of my journey from design to the canvas. Drawing inspiration from contemporaries and the great artists like Frankenthaler, Matisse and Rauschenberg, I navigate the realms of abstract expressionism and mixed media collage. With acrylics, ink, and found objects, I craft pieces that invite joy and provoke curiosity. Each creation is a dialogue, offering layers of texture, color, pattern and form for the viewer to explore. My approach is dual-natured: vibrant and unrestrained at times, deliberate and nuanced at others. Whether through bold color play or intricate patterns, cutting up and rearranging, my work seeks to engage, connect, and enliven. Recent highlights include a solo show at a local gallery and participation in a juried group show, where I received an Honorable Mention by the juror from the Camp Gallery in Miami. My work has been featured in British Vogue and I am collaborating with Anthropologie for some prints.
