About The Artwork

This painting was inspired by a photograph sent to me by my sister who live in Conroe Texas. I loved the photo and though it would be a great subject to paint. I was also inspired to paint it on a lid from Good and Company pecan pie box which was also sent to me with the pie from my sister. I painted it on the reverse side of the lid to preserve the Good and Company logo and the "Thank you lucky stars the you are in Texas". This painting was done in arctic on the wood lid from the Good and Company box in which I received the pecan pie. The painting also includes a Coca Cola vintage sign the enhances the painting. The building in the painting is a quintessential general store with the "General Mercantile" signage on the outside wall. The wall also include the vintage Coca Cola sign. The paint is ideal for a nestagic trip to an old Texas general store providing the view with a "trip to bygone era".

Hello, my name is Dana Wheeler and I was recently let go from my job which has caused me to re-evaluate my career goals. Being that I am 60 years old I have begun thinking about utilizing my artistic abilities as a means of producing income or to supplement my income. I have always loved art and enjoyed drawing and painting. During high school I took art as a major and worked mostly with acrylics and pen and ink. In the 1980’s I took courses in oils, photography and drawing at Boston area colleges and the Museum of Fine Arts School. I have just recently started painting after a 25 year hiatus. This has been an interesting process and my artwork continues to develop. My tastes in art have evolved over the years. Early on I was very interested in surrealism as well a traditional realism. I later began to enjoy impressionism and finally I find that I enjoy all art. My favorite artists have also changed over the years; they include Salvador Dali, Andrew Wyeth, Claude Monet, and Edward Hopper. I work in watercolor, acrylic, and oil and I am very interested in realism and the use of colors. Many of my paintings were inspired by photographs that have significance to me from different times of my life. I know that everyone has a great painting of their own captured in a photo of a place and time that is special to that person. I believe that people are drawn toward specific artwork through an emotional connection with it. Because every individual is different their artistic preferences are very personal. A piece of art should evoke some feeling and emotion; it should make the viewer feel something. I want my paintings to connect with people in an emotional way in addition to being visually pleasing. In order to pursue my interest and to expand my artistic reach I have begun offering commissioned paintings created from clients’ personal photos. You too can have your favorite photos made into original watercolor, acrylic or oil paintings. I specialize in landscape, seascape or architecture, not in portraits. I will create an original painting from your photo in watercolor, acrylic or oil painting. Painting sizes available are as follows: Acrylic or Oil, 16 x 20 inches on canvas. Watercolor, 9 x 12 or 18 x 24 inches on watercolor paper. Pricing for paintings is determined by the size, medium, and the detail complexity of the submitted photo.
