The Green Painting

Q-usta (b. 1977) works as a painter in Surabaya, Indonesia's second most populous city where economic growth is rapid, often sacrificing the natural environmental balance. Fortunately, during the the last decade the regional government has began to promote the importance of greenery in every corner of the city. One of the most ambitious goals is a reforestation project where they intend to expand the city's forests up to 6 times more than what is currently existing. Q-usta may not be a civil servant, but he is one of the city folk who is conscious about this green agenda, and that it may be the only way to sustain the quality of air in this heavily polluted city. Responding to this positive initiative Q-usta wants to reveal the powerful of the energy that is produced by the trees. The color green bursts out from the canvas along with yellow hues representing the suns rays penetrating into the lush foliage of the city forest. The combination of the two colours are much smaller to compared with the greyish background, however, there presence dominates and can hide the gloom of industrialisation. The city forests of Surabaya are still relatively small, yet the benefit provided is essential - fresh air.
