About The Artwork

An abstract painting building on the color field painting of Mark Rothko. I wanted to add a degree of complexity to the evocative use of color in this tradition of abstract expressionism. In addition to the color, the layers add a bit of depth. I use quality watercolor paper with two coats of professional gesso as a ground to stop the paint from being absorbed by the paper. I use a brush or a rag to apply the acrylic colors.
