When the COVID-19 pandemic hit and the world was forced to shelter in place, I found solace in the simple yet powerful act of painting. My painting, "黄鸟惊雀," is a celebration of the unyielding spirit of nature in the face of adversity. Against a deep black background, two bright yellow flowers stand tall, their vibrant petals reaching for the sun. Created during the early days of the pandemic, this painting is a reminder that even when life is interrupted and uncertainty reigns, nature continues to bloom and thrive. "黄鸟又惊雀" can be translated to "yellow birds startle the sparrows," which suggests the presence of yellow flowers that the birds may be feeding on. The presence of the yellow flower suggested the uninterrupted continuity of nature.
