The photo series ‘Causality C2-I’ and ‘Causality C2-II’ relates to the two sculptures ‘Love Story’ next listing below, as well as to the printmaking series ‘The Fall / The Man / The Rise / The Feast’. First thing happening was that those shapes gnawed by my rabbits fascinated me. In replacing the boards I kept these four objects. This was in about 1998. Playfully putting always two of the boards together back to back a woman and a man had appeared. At the same time I became aware that what my rabbits had done was sculpting. They had created sculptures very much alike any human sculptor would do. For this reason I exhibited these rabbit photos first time in about 1999. The decision to print these shapes, and combine this with telling a story, that was much later. First time they were being printed in 2004. With these photos you can now collect the entire project - something related to causality; cause is rabbits gnawing, effect is a work in 3d, and you've got the additional four pieces in 2d. All of those are presently available as open edition prints. Additionally the two sculptures are available in bronze, and the four woodprints are done on a prestigious deckle-edged paper - so a very collectible set. These photos had been taken approx. in 1998 via an SLR camera on film for slides. Recently being digitised I have worked them over just slightly and find them great rendered in this type of black and white. I consider a limited edition in a particular format and paper quality.

London-based artist works with found objects, printed ready-mades as well as wood and bronze sculptures. Samuel Buttner exhibits internationally, has received awards and commissions for art in public spaces, and his work is held in both private and public collections. 'Remembering how my drawings as an eight-year-old received much attention, then opportunities for training during my teenage years leading to an education of professional wood sculptor. During my mid-twenties that enigmatic pull into social work with creativity for children and engagement in the special educational needs sector. The sculptor, printmaker and conceptual artist is grounded in life drawing, anatomical studies, and plein air painting. Much of the above would befriend me with Vincent van Gogh, valuing that eye-brain-hand-coordination for authentic, ecstatic expressiveness. Being equally aware how the subconscious gets visualized where it has been said that positive stimuli is evident as well as an artist philosopher, hence resonating with the like Marcel Duchamp exploring that limitless creativity-of-the-mind; that which is outside the box.'
