About The Artwork
The subject of this portrait is a Czech friend with an incisive mind and amazing green eyes, here accentuated by using transparent ink which lets the paper shine through. The other colours are opaque, chosen abstractly to harmonise with the first colour. Each colour uses a different screen, the final 'drawing' in pinkish-red being provided by an image drawn in waxy lithographic crayon, transferred to the screen to break the regularity of the other sharply contrasting colours. Although this is a portrait of a specific person, the image is striking in itself and shows the type of portrait that could be done for a different model.
