Hope Rises Print

Just like life itself Not so organized or directional as we may want Bounded living energy restrained With great beauty and promise Emerging, always emerging Hope rises This is an origina1 encaustic multi media collage 1/1 on canvas . The red represents hope rising. Of the many pieces I have created this is one of my very favorites. You will note that as hope rises it also diminishes somewhat, just like in life. The process of making this consumed 2 weeks of effort. The tiles are heavyweight oil water marbled paper and were pulled from an Agar gel tank with specially created oil paints using ox gall to reduce surface tension and float the oil pigments. This forces them to interact as micelles and float across the agar surface. They are frozen to paper and pulled literally from the surface of the gel . The sheet was then cut into tiles and set into wallboard compound which was textured and stained and then separated by coarse string boundaries. The water marbling produced the red, green and blue you see here exposed. The entire panel was coated in encaustic and then each tile was revealed with a heat gun blowing the encaustic off the marbled paper to reveal the color below. The art is encased in rough string boundaries that impede the rising hope and the entire piece is discordant, yet beautiful, hopeful yet restrained.The art appeals to me on many levels and always gets comment. No matter how I try, this piece looks wonderful, but seems to defy capturing its full beauty in a photographic image. The art comes framed in a white wooden gallery frame with hanging hardware.
