In Salvador Dali’s studio in Port L’igat was unfinished piece of work. The image painted on a wooden door is of Michelangelo’s Dying Slave. The Dying Slave, like the other captive figures, expresses a vain struggle for freedom of the soul. The idea came to me that Dali knew he was dying and was freeing his own soul in the same way.
