Sometimes I will begin these compositions with a design in mind, other times I'll just start laying out shapes and color. After interactively seeing how the shapes and colors correspond I'll have the sense of where the piece is going. The resulting mood called for a town landscape in the evening, a bright and inviting place. I often think of how the artist Paul Klee was able to evoke such strong moods in his work using similar concepts. Working in this way gives me the freedom to explore how the arrangement of colors in relation to each other and with the shapes in the composition can create a vibrant feeling of community – and I hope you find that in this work.

My abstract art explores the way things manifest in life, the environments we create, and the ways we seek out to surround ourselves with people and things create our reality. My work explores expression and emotion through the combination of color, forms and composition - things in our lives that immediately call up a feeling. I worked for many years as a commercial art director creating designs with bold colors and straight edges. That, along with a passion for collage and digital compositing informs my approach to much of my art. My work draws upon my personal experiences and visual memories to evoke a sense of peace and beauty in your surroundings.
