About The Artwork
This is a tribute to Lucian Freud's Girl in Stripped Nightshirt, 1983-5. The images varies in a number of ways (medium, size etc) but compositionally it is different. In Freud's piece the woman/girl has two eyes open, where as here she only has one. She is suspicious, and is pretenting to be asleep. To this extent we can perhaps surmise some malevolent presence. As she is in her sleeping attire this suggests an intimate setting, yet we are left uneasy becausey the woman/girl is keeping an eye out. For these reasons this a drawing of suspicion, with an element of unsaftey and danger, and dares to think the unthinkable.
