Common People Wearing Masks Title: Voodoo Queen Mask Origin: Anang people Nigeria Voodoo it's a spiritual path difficult to explain. Can be good, can be evil. It is related to nature, with a deep love and respect for trees (a voodoo practicing person would never cut a tree as they are the keepers of the soul of the dead) but it also includes animal sacrifice. Sometimes we are called, by the hard time we are living, to go and look for the aggressive strength we all have inside of us.Taking it outside and use it to defend ourselves from the external aggression is what Haiti did during the 18th century, becoming the first black slave colony of the world to be able to free itself. The last time the world saw such a thing it was at the time of Spartacus against the romans. And Spartacus failed. And it's not by chance that Haiti, at that time, was also the epicentre of voodoo. This portrait is dedicated to Marie Laveau, a famous voodoo queen, operating in New Orléans.
