This 4' x 10' painting on silk was created for the Columbus Museum exhibit "Discovering the Chattahoochee Valley: Silk Paintings by René Shoemaker". While researching the architecture and historic spaces of the Chattahoochee Valley, I came across this wonderful structure - which was in a state of disrepair - and contacted the city to learn more about the house. With historic photos in hand, I was able to merge my on-site sketches with the historic images of the house in its glory, into this vibrant painting which has a luminosity inherent in silk. This silk painting comes ready to hang with a bar inserted into the hem at the top of the silk. I am a fiber artist specializing in hand-painted silk intrigued by the way spaces work together and how people live in those spaces. I enjoy abstracting what is found in the 'real' world into basic shapes and extraordinary colors. The silk arrives hemmed with a rod for ease of hanging.
