A barn owl in flight with two sprigs of wheat in his talons. Through rodent predation, the barn owl increases wheat yields and reduces the need for rodenticide. In turn, this reduces incidences of rodent borne diseases and cancer in humans. This work is from my new series "The Gifts They Bring" which focuses on the services animals provide the greater ecosystem and humans. Through this painting, I hope to celebrate the beauty of this beautiful creature while shedding light on the role it plays in our world. Thank you for looking.

Leslie understands the source of creation driven by passions of the intellect and soul. Art for Leslie is a form of communication, sometimes visceral and sometimes direct. She creates her own techniques and adds new twists to more traditional approaches gyrating between thumbing her nose at tradition and leaning on it. She has been a professional artist for 20 years with a career first launched in Las Vegas NV, leapfrogging through Austin TX and finally landing in Asheville NC. She has worked in many mediums and on many surfaces ranging from traditional canvas and wood panel to the more unusual, including vintage furniture, WWII artillery shells and car doors. Leslie can’t imagine living her life without creating art; she starts dreaming of art before her eyes are even closed. Leslie is inspired by exploring new subjects in her work and mixing science with art. Recent subjects include soundwaves, symbiosis in nature, and binary code messages. These porcelain like paintings are created through a time intensive layering and removal process invented by the artist. In addition to an art-filled life, Leslie has a graduate degree in environmental policy and management and an undergraduate degree in environmental science. Leslie recently stepped down as the creative director of a 40 year-old art company. She enjoys rowing and racing crew and spending time with her five rescued cats and tolerant husband.
