As is common in my work, the title of a piece comes during or after its execution, and often "explains" to me what it is all about. Between Worlds did just that. At the time, I was struggling (more than usual) with the pull of tight, traditional proficiency and a freer, more abstract, "follow-your-spirit" kind of approach. The child represents my position between the known, "safe-place" or "supportive-earth" (depicted by the family farm), and the weird and exciting no-man's land of the unknown (represented by the abstract turquoise and blue). There are many other metaphors, such as the rainwater and darkness of the farm buildings which I think speak as archetypes for most of us.

I am a figurative artist, occasionally dabbling in landscape when there seems to be a narrative element worth exploring. My work is about the Spirit and the evolution that occurs in every mundane and poignant minute of the human drama.
