About The Artwork

This piece was a true labor of love. It took time & patience to decide which vegetables to “plant” in my garden. It took weeks of researching and developing numerous origami models for each garden element. Then it was necessary to fold various versions of each plant to determine proportions relative to each other. This took a LOT of folding and refolding to get the right sizes and proportions! Figuring out background needs, I tore and collaged specialty papers onto my board. The fun then began of attaching all of my plant models along with selected and folded origami animals to fill in the scene: two flying birds, an owl in a tree, another bird sitting on an eggplant, a rabbit trying to make off with a carrot, a snake admiring the peas, and finally a mouse nibbling on a mushroom. A last touch was adding a little bit of sand from the Sonoran Desert in Southern Arizona to celebrate having a garden in the desert! A Certificate of Authenticity is included.

Born on the West coast of the US and raised in upstate New York State I now live in the American Southwest in Tucson, AZ. Making art was my first love as a child, and art continues to impact my life every day. Although I grew up in a small town I had a lot of artistic influence from my family; my father loved art & played musical instruments, one of his brothers was a professional artist, my mother always encouraged making hand-made gifts and cards, and two of my five sisters are also artists.
