This painting won the Jackson Prize 2022 abstract award. human emotions that cannot be expressed in words. Sometimes sad, happy, and painful emotions become the subject of painting. However, I am not interested in arranging those emotions, I only want to show the combination and order of the form. When I paint, I try to create as many complex compositions as I can as best as I can by throwing colors around. What comes to mind at that time is very specific, such as the bridges and roads I saw in the city, the color of the roof, and the shape of the buildings. When I make such a complicated composition with colors, the colors start to move and start to get on the rhythm. I follow those moments and continue composing as if I was creating a chord using the most pleasing state possible.’

" There is only one thing that is true. I draw what I see at once. " I am a visual artist born in 1979 and based in Seoul. I am strongly obsessed with mathematical allegories that are closely linked to color and memory images. The intention is to directly touch the viewer's emotions through visualization influenced by musical composition techniques. I express in my paintings the indescribable subtleties of feelings of sadness, joy and pain. It simply presents a structure that excludes the story. The paintings I am influenced by and like are Matisse, Bonnard, and Manet. Research on the decorativeness and curves of arabesque patterns and modern dance choreography From the constant questions about freedom and existence, which are the essence of human beings, Dostoevsky's Memoirs from Underground, Crime and Punishment, and because I like humor about nihilism,Samuel Beckett , and Marcel Proust's image memory method, these are all processes of my work. Since 2002, I have been studying techniques and improving my technique using only oil paintings, and in Korea, my brushstrokes are mentioned as being connected to oriental handwriting. From a young age, I was good at calligraphy, drew a lot of oriental paintings, and was poetically developed. I would like to say that the process of completing my paintings is a continuation of the process, and I believe that the rest should follow from the act of seeing. I hope it continues to be read as a new version in their eyes.
