About The Artwork

My husband and I rode our bikes up Marjan Hill, and couldn’t believe the breathtaking view of the city. I have never been to a place with such overwhelming hospitality. I wanted to capture that beauty in paint. I hope when you look at my work, you see even a glimpse of the beauty that encompasses the city of Split and all of Croatia. This original painting depicts town Split; Croatia’s second largest city. Split is one of the Adriatic’s most vibrant port cities, stunningly located between mountains and sea. As the economic and cultural center of the Dalmatian coast, Split is bustling with islanders who flock into the city to work even as ferries whisk tourists out to the islands.

Thank you for taking the time to view my art! I am originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, but the military brought me to my long-term home in Grand Forks, North Dakota, with my husband and four children. My painting journey began in late December of 2020. Throughout the pandemic, I found myself unemployed and experiencing rejection after rejection in my job search. All the while, I prayed for God to help me understand what I was supposed to do next. I picked up a paintbrush and began painting for the first time in my life. There is a very beautiful way people create homes for both livelihoods and entertainment in their communities. I am drawn to structures where I can feel the energy of the people who exist within and outside the walls. It is so easy appreciate how people build their lives in such creativity. The optimism in something so small as creating a beautiful garden or as large and the pride taken in managing a family farm, is amazing. I love capturing the bold vibes that vibrate throughout communities large and small and make it magical, especially in communities where I am connected.
