Inspired by the impressionist paintings of Monet with the bold rich colours and marks. I decided to visit and sketch a local river spot where a new family of Otters were seen. I had to paint these wonderful animals, each having a character as they swam, ate and chirruped and squeaked hidden by reeds. Then at one magical moment they swam up to the bank edge and one was eating a fish the other two eyed me up without fear or trepidation from about a foot away. I had to paint this magical encounter. I chose to paint on Gessobord, with acrylic gesso and the main painting with Oils. The oils had that sculptural feel and colour dynamic that the impressionists used, and it made the process of painting like dancing with the otters in the water as the brush glided and made ripples like the water. I hope you like I feel inspired by the beauty of nature and the families of animals that live within it, and the inquistive nature of a creature, lithe and languishing in the water looking at the strange human in his wheelchair wide eyed and full of wonder. It was a magical day, something I love to share to the world. Painting is on 18x24 in Gessobord, Ampersand Archival Museum Series, which is Eco Friendly acid free. Paints used were archival gesso acrylic. The oil paints were a mixture of Michael Harding Oils, and Artisanal Oils by Winsor & Newton. The board is 3mm and has no fixings, however a framer can mount this in a floating frame,

I am a disabled war veteran who has turned to art as a means of therapy. I sell my paintings to fund my art therapy. It takes me a long time to paint due to fatigue and depression. But once I am painting I forget the pain and it make my mind quiet. Painting for me is peace, I love animals and I try my hardest to capture the essence of their spirit. I paint in a loose impressionistic style, sometime naive I love colour and texture. I also sculpt and make models, compose music.
