Independence Hall Print

This national treasure, located at Independence Mall in Philadelphia, PA, is a hand-rendered acrylic painting over an acrylic-silkscreened Declaration of Independence. Often I see paintings done in traditional colors and style, and while I stayed with its true look in structure, I wanted to paint a celebration of color into it, as one may see on Independence Day or during a brilliant sunset. This piece was inspired by its rich history as the place of the birth of our nation (although the signing of the Declaration of Independence was actually August 2, 1776). Though I used to think history was boring when I was a kid, I find it fascinating now, both how people dealt with issues, and the repetition of history when people do ignore it. I hope people will feel the celebration of this place, of Philadelphia, and of our country when they see it.
