About The Artwork

I started doing figurative drawing and painting in the summer of 2022 through a meetup. This location resulted through another artist telling me about this location where this lean and fit woman modeled. I happened to recognize her face from meeting her online in a 12 step group I attended during the pandemic and later met her and partner for a walk in the local park. I didn't know she modeled for artist groups. The last time I did figurative drawing was for about 3 weeks - thirty years ago! I particularly like this group which meets during warmer months in the upstairs of an old church that is being renovated into a community center for artists and musicians alike a run down borough outside of Pittsburgh. I often started off drawing in these sessions, only to be frustrated and moved onto watercolor. The artists who attend vary; I enjoyed walking around looking at everyone's work to learn techniques that might improve my practice, particularly related to portraits and proportions of different body parts. I like painting the human body in unexpected colors because in the end, we are all one humanity! We may have different skin colors, but we all want to be loved. We want to feel a sense of belonging. We all seek peace. I don't know why but I have no desire to paint the true skin color of the models. It's easier for me to find the shades and how the light hits skin through different shades of green, for example. The wallpaper design on the yellow background is related to an early design I saw in Milan at Castello Sforzesco.

Thank you for your time and your consideration in stopping by. In 2020, I started painting after a dry spell of not painting since college. In 2021 I experienced a creative intuitive push to finish final edits after 13 years of editing, revising, working with an editor to publish my novel, once and for all, Finding Moksha: One Woman’s Path in Uncertain Times. Painting provided my need to express myself when there were no words. I started showing my paintings and creative essays on various platforms. Nature is my biggest inspiration and I experience great peace when I am walking in the woods, hearing the twitter of the birds and seeing trees all around me. I have a fondness for color and how light changes it. Receiving a scholarship with Rome Art Program, I painted and drew all over Rome with international teachers in the summer of 2021. The creative process continued as I made connections through networking online and through others I had met in person. I never planned to exhibit in Paris at Carrousel du Louvre in the fall of 2022 in Paris; it just happened through a mutual connection by way of Vienna. I paint with mediums of acrylic, watercolor, and oil with cold wax, with no attachment to the outcome, other than listening to my feelings of what feels right. My vision is that you who have stopped at my page feel inner peace, self-compassion and self-acceptance. My wish is that you hold onto those vibrations as you create and build your interior spaces with my creative works.
