About The Artwork

I started painting this one day in the mountains of Topanga California. It was breezy outside and one of those days when Heaven is blowing all things your way. I stopped the work I normally did for a living in my open-air /shop /studio and cast my fate to the wind. I was not going to miss trying to jump aboard this wild feeling rolling through the air. I was going to try and capture it on canvas. One of my favorite sayings has always been.."The Spirit is like the Wind, you hear it blowing but you cannot say from where it comes or where it will go." One thing I've learned in life, is when the magic shows up, don't hesitate, jump on and ride. Otherwise it may be a long time before it ever shows up again. Those were the feelings going though me when I painted this. It seemed like the wind was trying to tell me something, something important. And now when I look back I know it did. I still have this painting which hangs in my house and reminds me of that turbulent exciting day and looking at it always brings energy to me. If I had hesitated, the day would have gone along its merry way instead of capturing me in its wild glory. and I'd probably have no memory of the vibrant power it was pushing through the trees and leaves and my whole body. I'd probably not even remember that special visit it had paid me. I think this is how the voice of God speaks to us from time to time. It tells us not to worry, drop all your responsibilities every once in a while and take out time for yourself and Life Itself. .

Painting and sculpting for over 50 years. Started in the early 1960's. Joined the Merchant Marines in my early twenties and set off to paint and draw around the world. Hitchhiked around Europe and Morocco for about a year and met wonderful artists in many places. Highlight was visiting Salvador Dali at his home in Spain. Back in the 70's it was much safer to hitchhike and camp out as you journeyed and I ventured around for about a year meeting wonderful young artists. Through the years, I've worked many jobs, in factories, offices etc. Eventually became a general contractor, however, the one thing I always did was keep my love of painting and sculpting. Had many art shows in the Los Angels area for about 30 years, managed to break new ground every once in a while, get acclaimed in the Art Realm for 15 seconds by the media, then relegated back onto the treadmill. Such is the life of artists who are in it for the Long Run. It's Cool, Is what it is and I've no complaints.
