Paul Gauguin, I can't get your genius out of my system, after my painting entitled "My Tribute to Paul Gauguin", here I am again! It was on Friday, April 1, 2011, a woman hit the plexiglass covering the painting "Two Tahitian Women" (1899) by Paul Gauguin and attempted to pull it from the wall in the exhibition currently on view, "Gauguin: Maker of Myth." Initial examination indicates that the painting has not suffered any damage. Currently, it is part of the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Two Tahitian women in a serene state of reverence, as they offer flowers, and fruits at a ceremony. Their skin is depicted in golden hues, set off by the cool colors of their clothes and of the tropical glade in which they stand. The painting captures Gauguin’s mythical idea of Tahiti as a paradise of beautiful, mysterious women. It is also written that Gauguin fathered children with at least three different girls between the ages of thirteen and fifteen. Hence, in this painting, I have dared to capture Gauguin's real essence as a man, artist/genius by my version entitled, "Two Thoroughly Modern Women" by portraying two young women, in their shameless innocence offering cherries and cherry blossoms. To echo Gauguin's Symbolism period, I have used the ripe, sensuous, irresistible cherries to symbolize a sweet character and the sweetness of Paradise. The blossoms bring spring, a new beginning and growth.

As a painter, I am inspired by the diverse cultures and people on our planet. I also like to capture the beauty in the mundane objects and places. By exploring my personal and spiritual connection with nature through my interpretation of God's creation, I strive to create images that transport the viewers to a different state of mind. I want them to experience something new that they have not noticed in the past. Utilizing both my illustrative instinct that I acquired through years of experience in Graphic Design and my modern stylistic technique, I am able to explore the art of painting to achieve a sense of self-fulfillment. My style and my love of color give me a sense of freedom and joy in creating, which, in turn achieve a sense of motion and emotion in my work. Armed with the design elements of line, shape, color, contrast. value, balance and texture, I particularly like to experiment with different materials like fine sand, burlap, sinamay fabric (woven in the Philippines), rice grains and paper to accomplish a richness in texture or to evoke depth. My repertoire of tools include, but not limited to brush, palette knife, toothbrush, sponge, opaque and thinning mediums, wet on wet and glazing. Different mediums allow me to express different ideas in a unique and personal way. Each and every single piece contains a fragment of myself, created in an effort to unearth myself or sometimes even heal myself. I strive to make my paintings speak out their innermost depth, conveying the message of healing energy and hope.
