Start of a lava stream (flowing to the left for a few kilometers) at the Icelandic volcano. (Fagradalsfjall volcano, South Western Iceland) Many volcanoes have side openings near to them, from which lava flows (not erupts, or just very lightly) down in long lava creeks. This one was about 3 meters wide at a maximum, but the hot lava lasted for at least a kilometer or two down the valley. I was lucky enough to visit the Fagradalsfjall volcano on an active day, moreover, there were several of these side craters. The opening of this one reminds me of a fire dragon that's been released from the Earth. This was my first day in Iceland and I was concerned about the drone surviving when I flew so close to the lava - some 25 meters - and there indeed was very minor damage, but other than that, the drone survived for the next month in Iceland. Still, this photo from Day 1 remains one of the best from the whole trip. My work in drone photography centers on the awe of uncovering the extraordinary within the ordinary. It's about seeing beauty or dynamic complexity in places where we least expect it, by shifting our perspective… and literally losing the ground under our feet. I've been awarded multiple international photo awards, have been exhibiting and was featured in publications (incl. the National Geographic), but I try to stay humble towards the endless possibilities that the views on Earth from the sky offer to us. In my drone photography, I aim to finding beauty and complexity where we least expect it by shifting our perspective and soaring above the ground. It isn't just about capturing landscapes differently; it's an adventurous exploration of the world around us. And while I've worked in exotic locations, my true fulfillment comes from revealing the richness of what's around us in our most immediate surroundings. This perspective often challenges conventional notions of beauty and interest, inspiring me to break free from stereotypes in everyday life. It not only reshapes our view of the world but also mirrors our inner emotions and thoughts, showing how they interact with our environment. Ultimately, aerial photography brings me closer to nature, allowing me to appreciate the landscape from above and reconnect with the natural world in a modern context. Drone photography is more than a technique for me; it's a means of exploration and self-discovery, blending the external and internal worlds in each frame.
