Tree fellers were felling a tree on the other side of the river to my studio, I asked them for any spare bits. They let me take 7m worth of trunk. Hybrids were on my mind, this willow can be seen as a creature, two little legs that drags its body through. Or it can be seen as something struck down but kept alive, an experiment. It was fitting that this tree is a willow; a whole tree can be uprooted and chopped into but give it water, anywhere, and in time it will grow water roots. It is a resilient tree, it doesn't so easily lose life. After being exhibited this was cut into chunks, some parts were given water and revived, some were made into shelves. I gave away parts to friends and forests, I now only have the branches as staffs.

James Lovelock and Jacob Bronowski are two theorists who influence my thought process. In particular, Lovelock voiced that interaction with nature, even if outcomes cannot be articulated, are nevertheless good science. www.hannahbpedersen.com www.etsy.com/uk/shop/TwistedStitchUK
